Does Yeast contain gluten?
Gluten Free in Australia, Canada, European Union, New Zealand
Yeast is considered GLUTEN FREE in Australia, Canada, European Union, New Zealand (AU, CA, EU, NZ) due to mandatory allergen labeling requirements.
In these regions, manufacturers must disclose if an ingredient contains gluten from wheat, barley, or rye. Since "yeast" appears on the label without a gluten warning, it is safe to consume.
May Contain Gluten in Other Regions
In regions not listed above (such as the United States), Yeast MAY CONTAIN gluten.
Gluten free in AU/CA/EU/NZ due to mandatory allergen labeling. In US, if yeast is grown on a medium containing barley or rye (common in brewing operations or some commercial production), traces of gluten proteins could remain with the yeast cells even after processing. Barley and rye don't require allergen disclosure in the US.
If you are in the US or another region not listed above, treat this ingredient as potentially containing gluten unless it is explicitly labeled as gluten-free.
